Finding a name for something can be a tedious and frustrating “journey”. It took quite a while before we came up with a loveable name such as gagatree for our company. From the American Heritage Dictionary, gaga means silly; crazy, completely absorbed, infactuated and excited, lastly senile; doddering. From Dictionary.com, gaga means excessively and foolishly enthusiastic, ardently fond; infatuated, demented; crazy; dotty. The synonyms of GaGa can mean crazy, dotty, enamored, infatuated, in love, smitten, soft on, taken with… Where tree in context means a plant having a permanently woody main stem or trunk, ordinarily growing to a considerable height, and usually developing branches at some distance from the ground. Ofcourse we are not senile, we are a bunch of young, full of dreams and desire designers. Desire for success. Crave for doing something we wanted to do. We were all sick. Sick of doing what others telling us to do. We wanted out. So came the day where our day dreaming became a reality. Lets set out to do something we always wanted. To design our own products! Then ideas came pouring in one by one. We have tremendous ideas. But then, “What shall we name our company”, shouted les. There was a sudden air of silence. This lasted for seconds but seems like an aeon has passed. Yang gave her best shot, lets name it “gagatog”. “I want to design something for toddlers, lets call this gagatog.” A few more names and tagline was thrown and debated. And after some brain damaging storming session, we finally all agreed. Lets call it – GaGatree. We wanted to design and produce stuff that are fun, wild and uncommon. Things that can cause a person goes gaga over. And to inspire with love; to captivate people. And since we are all born and raised in Singapore, we wanted to do something in our design with an Asian flair. We wanted to nurture and grow the company. We were ambitous. We wanted to be the household name of lifestyle gift products. We wanted a seat in the world. We wanted everyone globally to know who we are and what we design. A strong tree has roots deeply rooted into the grounds. It must have a thick broad stem and shoot to the sky. As it grows, the branches and leaves must spread far and wide so as to capture sunlights and dews. It speaks the company direction.
“I think we call it gagatree”, les.
Every one cheered. And thus the name GaGatree.

Dear Gaga Gang,
Thanks for your wonderful stuff. Came across it sometime last year at Egg3 and we have your ‘Tai Lo’ & ‘Tai Ka Che’ signs hanging in the car.
KEEP IT UP! Will sure enjoy giving these gifts!
Thanks so much! Really appreciate all your support.
Yes I just love the gagatree pop-up cards.. NEAT concept! I’d love to mention them on my blog “Making Gifts Within A Card” which typically features our cards as they relate to holidays and why to send cards.. but this is something you need to be recognized for.
Just let us know if it is okay for us to mention you.
